Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art (B.A.)
Incoming freshmen students
If you’re an incoming undergraduate student, you must first apply for admission to IU Bloomington.
Once admitted to IU, you'll begin in the University Division as an exploratory student and can start to satisfy requirements for the studio art major. It is not required to declare a studio art major to enroll in the Fundamental Studio courses.
To apply to change your degree from B.A. to B.F.A., you must complete a portfolio review and interview process conducted by the studio area in which your degree will be focused. Students are not usually admitted into the B.F.A. program until they have successfully completed at least one studio course in the studio area in which they will focus.
You can apply for direct admission to the College of Arts and Sciences. Direct admission allows invited students to declare a studio art major in the College at the start of their freshman year.
There is no formal application procedure to begin work in the Bachelor of Studio Art program; you are not required to declare a studio art major in order to enroll in Fundamental Studio courses.
Once you have completed your freshman year, you may choose to declare a major in studio art.
